NEW ENERGY RESEARCH PROGRAM BETWEEN SWEDEN AND BRAZIL

9 February 2012, in News

This week the Swedish Brazilian Innovation & Research Center, (CISB) in partnership with KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, and UFMG, the Federal University of Minas Gerais, have received approval for their research project called "Intelligent Urban Electric Networks - The Brazilian International Constellation Model".

The research project was submitted to the call jointly made by CEMIG (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais), an electricity company in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and by FAPEMIG (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa de Minas Gerais), and an organization that supports research in Minas Gerais. CEMIG regarded the initiative as strategic, and for that reason, the company will fund the research directly.

The research project includes studies on decentralized energy production and distribution architecture that is known as Microgrids, which are small independent networks operating standalone or connected to the main energy system thereby enabling the use of renewable energy sources to supply cities and urban centers.

“This new Energy Research program initiative through the R&D centre CISB, proves we can contribute to better understand and co-operate between our countries and show that Sweden and Saab has the capacity and the will to share its technology with Brazil”, says Pontus de Laval, Vice President Research & Development, Saab AB.

In December 2010 was the launch of the R&D Center (CISB) initiated by Saab and the municipality of São Bernardo de Campo, Brazil. The main aim of the centre was to form a bridgehead between the two countries Brazil and Sweden, creating a hub to identify, develop and support high-tech bilateral co-operation projects and technology for a sustainable society.
